Schwalbe Nobby Nic on Anthem (occasional tarmac use)

Having decided that my current tyres are not for me(kenda block 8) I was looking at getting some Schwalbe Nobby Nic's. However searching around people seem to suggest they will get worn out very quickly with tarmac use.

On a typical 20mile ride from home I could do about 5 miles on tarmac, getting to/from various trails.

I also ride Dalby and other trail centres a few times a year.

How are the Nobby Nics in real life with occasional tarmac use?

Cheers,

Greg

5 miles on tarmac is OK. You will probably get around 1k out of the back but of course YMMV.

The 2.1s are low-volume XC tyres and IME a bit too fragile and twitchy for all-round use. The 2.25s are much more versatile and with a 2.4 up front you will be able to ride over/through anything.

The snakeskin derivatives have burlier sidewalls and although there's a slight weight penalty, the tyre is more stable over a wider pressure range.

    No idea on tarmac,

but in welsh wet weather with all the rocks and routes we had they had very little trail traction when i used the 2.1's i ended up binning them after 3 rides i hated them that much. crashed every outing with them.

but they are three compound with the center being hard, and softening to the outer tread so may work for you, but if you have and decent rocks or roots around you you will struggle. if your trail is smooth and and steady say like Follow the dog or so you will love them as they roll really fast and are light

I comutted on nobby nics and xc on weekend and they wore out in a couple months.

For me I wont buy again, even though they were great off road.

I got panaracer fire xc's and they ar wearing very good

Don`t know how you managed to wear them out so quickly.I have been using the same set of Nics for the last 2 years!

(Though I swop the rear out for a Racing Ralph.for the summer.)

I guess a lot will depend on other factors,as to where you ride, and how often you ride but I like them, ideal for the relative tame riding and very mixed ground conditions local to me,not that much slower than Ralphs but a lot grippier, too.

NNs are great but you do hear from a lot of places that they wear fast on tarmac (I've only used them offroad, where they were pretty fantastic)

Nics have been great for me, it's sb8 i found to be deadly.
The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.
