Rattling chain

Just had my bike in for it's free 6 week service - now it rattles like mad on the inner ring - think the chain is hitting the inside edge of the front mech.

Remind me again - which screw do I fiddle with endlessly to make sure it clears the chain?! It's driving me slightly bonkers. I HATE adjusting gears!! And no I'm not getting a singlespeed!

Loosen the L limit screw. Go carefully though, only adjust in small increments otherwise you might make it worse. Loads of websites on this but I use parktool and bicycletutor for bits I get stuck on.

Matt, im the same, hate the arsing about with it and with the old Raleigh never seemed to get it 100%
Is there any reason why you cant just take it back to where it was serviced?

Pedro - I might just do that. One of our other bikes is in for a new cassette and chain so might just do a swap over.

    It's just a bit of a hassle!

not as much hassle as not getting it right then having to leave it in!

You've me panicking now, i got the same elite as you, and cant get over how slick the gear change is (i have to actually look down and check its switched cause cant hear or feel it), so now im wondering how it will come out of the LBS after its first service!

Pedro - I'd just check it thoroughly before you leave - although I wouldn't have spotted this TBH.

Do you know I had my Mavics replaced for free and upgraded due to a freehub issue? Sounds like it's quite common. If yours "ticks" very loudly, get it sorted! The new wheels are very nice looking! And free.

I think you need to loosen the L limit screw. Anyway you should do it yourself, it`s just a case of turning the screw a tiny bit, don`t be scared, If it makes it worse just turn it back again. It aint rocket science or anything.

Havent noticed any issues with mine yet, but having said that have very few miles under the belt so far. One thing have noticed is (only when freewheeling) a bit of a ticking but just assume this is normal. Forgive my ignorance, but would they not just change the freehub?

    What are the new wheels?

Pedro - to be honest I didn't even know there was an issue! But apparently that ticking was way too loud (a bit like an MTB Hope 2 hub). Not sure why they did both wheels but I now have a pair of Shimano RS10s and they look great! But lighter and a bit stiffer apparently...

Front mech just been tweaked so hopefully that will sort it.

Changed both cause the original wheels were black (mine are anyway.....)
    Looks well, ride any different?

Feels a wee bit lighter and responds slightly better (but firmer) so guess they are slightly stiffer.
