I believe I have it; outside of R foot, metarsal, after about 75k. L foot is fine. Can anyone suggest a remedy please?

  • Loosen your shoe a bit? Or bigger shoes?
  • Hot Foot tends to be on the ball of the foot. Pain on the outside can often be because the pedal spacing is too narrow. See if you can space your cleats so your shoes are further outboard.

try adjusting the angle of your shoes, pointing slightly in or out.

2 paracetomol and 2 ibuprofen every 3 hours. Worked for me on the Dragon Ride!

Yes, seriously I went and got some sidas custom insoles from Cyclefit and they put some extra padding at the front of the shoe, adjusted the cleat position, which I had had too far forward (a couple of millimetres only) and added a wedge. That solved the problem.
Shoes are Northwave Revenge (they are a generally wider fit than others) with carbon soles, on Keo Carbon pedals with the red cleats that allow most float.

I have suffered with this for some time now, and it gets so bad it puts me off getting on the bike.. have adjusted cleats all over the shop...

IIRC I read somewhere that it can be caused by heat from the pedal caused by friction travelling through into the metal cleat. The suggestion was to put a thin layer of cork underneath the insole of your shoe, as this acts as an insulator.

Northwave vertigo shoes - a size larger cured it for me.

You might find there is not enough lateral adjustment in the cleat. Try putting a washer between the pedal and crank (cheap option) or fitting a triple chainset (expensive option).

Thanx Mike! Somebody else told me about the spacer idea. I'll have to try it...

I might actually book in to see you and get a proper look at everything..
