Confused about Shocks, help!

Hello,

I have been looking at rear shocks on CRC, they seem to be listed as sizes in Lbs with 400, 550, 600 etc.

Yet the frame I have been looking at takes a 165mm Shock apparentally.

Will these fit it?

This is the frame: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Diamondback-XSL-S ... 286.c0.m14

Cheers, Theo.

well you need more info from the seller.

ok you have the i2i but you also need the stroke.

then you need the travel of the bike and your weight and then you can work out the spring you need.

you will also need to get the correct mounting kit for the frame and the shock.

Hi Nick, thanks for responding so fast.

My weight is 10.5 Stone, here is a Bikepedia overview of the complete bike: http://www.bikepedia.com/QuickBike/Bike ... &Type=bike

It states that the original rear shock is a Rock Shox SID Adjust, 3.0"-4.0" so I presume the Stroke would be 3-4"?

And would I be right in stating that the stroke size equates to the travel of the bike?

Would I be able to get the correct mounting kit from Fox/Rockshox or is this something I'd have to ask the frame manufacturer all day?

    Thanks for your help. :)

The travel depends on the leverage ratio of the bike. The ratio multiplied by the stroke gives the travel.

Indeed he has, I've just emailed him back as he sent me a lengthy email with quite a bit of info in, turns out he has bought the shock I am planning to buy, so watch the "Your Rides" section in about a month! :)
