You guys must get tired of these types of discussions:

I'm looking to buy my first road bike, I just want to use it for commuting initially, though since I am a bit sporty anyways I want to be able to take part in some races in the future.

I'm on a bit of a budget and so have been looking at second hand bikes, the only one I have found so far is this one on ebay. I'm wondering what kind of price should I expect to pay for this?

Alternatively I could wait until the middle/end of September I'd have a considerably larger budget to play with, but I'd still try to limit myself to around £500. With this type of budget I could afford a new bike of what I'd consider reasonable spec.

Just wondering what you'd be considering?

its a decent bike, depends on what level you are looking to get to.

Why not buy it as a commuting and training bike, then when you are mmore experienced, treat yourself to a pricier bike?

Hope you've got long legs, that is a very large frame, have you checked on the website for the geometry and sizing guide ?
Anyway, if you are looking for something secondhand then the Allez or Giant SCR are good buys. Loads around and well thought of.
If you wait till Sept to buy new, there will be current models discounted as they are replaced with new models.

  • well I haven't been sized properly, but I using a rough guide of inside leg minus 25 it would fit as well as could be expected for an online purchase. I have a 34 inch inside leg, so thats about 86 or 87cm. thus 60-62 sized frame should suit me.

Assuming I go ahead with the online purchase, is there any advice I should have before parting with my cash?

OK, sounds like you have done your homework regarding frame size :D
It has bottom end Sora gears so will be 8 speed i think, nothing wrong with this just don't pay over the odds as it is in a fairly used condition.
You can look on Ebay at completed auctions for similar bikes (not sure how) this might give you an idea what price is acceptable.
Good luck with your purchase :D
