help with pros and cons of these bikes

I am after a hardtail for a mix or road and xc, probably 30/70 mix.
I haven't owned a bike for 15 years
I weigh 17 st + am 5'10
I'd like to know the pros and cons of the bikes I am considering at the moment. These are
Specialized hardrock sport disc 2010 – £400
Mongoose Tyax super - £391
Specialized hardrock pro 09 - £490 (if I can still get one. the 2010 is too expensive)
GT avalanche 2.0 disc - £500
budget max is £500 but I'd prefer to be nearer £400
Are there any others I shoudl be considering? (I am limited to shops working with cyclescheme.co.uk nr manchester)

The Hardrock Sport I would write off straigtht away - poor fork, the others are much better. the Pro is better, but expensive and more XC biaased than the other two, which are tougher.
Tyax Super is superb for the money, and pi$$es all over that hardrock.0
