Best Racer For Around £1000?

Hi guys - I'm new here, so sorry if this is a question that gets asked every few days.
I've been happy with my old GT hybrid for the last couple of years (it gets me to and from work every day) but I've finally had enough of guys on racers overtaking me.
I've got about £1000 that I can spend on a new bike - but obviously I'm a little lost as to what I should be going for.
I've heard good things about the Trek 1.7.
I'd be very grateful for any advice / links / Yoda-esque guidance.
