Hi guys, kinda new to this lark. Got me a Maxlight Framed builtup bike off ebay thats a few years old. Its been around the block a few times but i dont really care.
anyway...... I have had it in 2 places to index the gears and both times they kinda fail to get it right, (rubs on most gears and chain slips off the top gear at the front only when your on it and never on a stand)
Was going to just replace the mech at the back and the drive thingi and the chain but dunno what to get, its XT stuff just now but i dont really care, i just want it to go again.
My terminoligy may be criminal so dont shoot me down
anyway any advice would be great

You may need to change the chainset aor chainrings too.
SOunds like you need:
Chainrings/chainset
Cassette (thats the rear gear cogs)
Chain
Is the mech knackered? How many gears do you have?0 -
supersonic, thanks for the quick reply, its all pretty worn. Im embarrased to say that I dont know, my friend replaced the rear mech with one of his (he is a bike prevert of the highest order) but its still doing it.
as I have said it has done the rounds,
Chainrings/chainset
Cassette (thats the rear gear cogs)
Chain
I think your bang on with that list, whats a good combo for that lot?
ta man

What is your likely budget?
How many gears do you have?0 -

5,6,7,8, or 9 ;-)
We need to know exactly what your shifters are.0 -
Until we know exactly what gears you have, we cant really offer decent suggestions for replacements.
However, if you wanted to go ahead and replace the entire lot, including brakes. You can get a complete Shimano Deore Disk Groupset for £170:

Although, now I think about it, without knowing what gears you currently have, we cant say if your hub would fit. So still no use. Also have no idea if your frame/forks would work with disks. Actually, until we have all the information, never mind.0 -
i will check tonight guys, shounds good tho thanks. its deore lx shifters I know that much
