Hi im looking to upgrade my specialized rockhopper with some disc breaks as i went for the V brake version a couple of years ago. Im on a pretty low budget of about £100 is there any recommendations. I have looked at Avid’s Juicy 3 and 5’s on ebay, not sure weather i can get the later for £100 though .
Im not a mechanical genius so are they easy to fit?
thanks

I have 3 seperate bikes which use Juicy 3's, Juicy 7's and Elixir; all of which I find work really well.
My full sus XC bike came with Juicy 3's but as I spent most of my time on steep-ish decents I upgraded to Juicy 7's for a bit more stopping power.
This has left me with a perfectly good set of Juicy 3's spare that only had about 2 months of use. I would be happy to sell them for £70 for the pair + a bit of postage (black colour and they have a 185mm front rotor and a 160mm rear, both IS mounts) if your were interested.

Bargain at £134 if you can stretch by that much?
Alternatively, for £90, you can get a brand new complete F&R set of Juicy 3s

What are the budget Maguras again, Julies? I rode a demo bike with them on, they were very nice indeed, it was quite telling that cotic chose these budget brakes on a demo build of about £1500 worth of hardtail- they're good enough for that.
Tektro Auriga Comp or Pro might come in your budget, they're a bit associated with cheapo bikes but they're basically Shimano copies- good power, not a huge amount of feel but they're effective. And also they use the shimano pads so easy availability.Uncompromising extremist0 -
Hi a bit over your budget, but the Shimano SLX got a really good review and was MBUK's value choice in their recent Trail brakes feature. Meant to have good power and feel, and the new servowave technology is meant to be a lot better.
£120 a pair at CRC, may be cheaper elsewhere though.0 -
avid brakes are by no means easy LOL

IMHO i thiunk that hayes are on of the best cheap/easy and powerfullcheck out my new forum

The Trails are impressive, the rydes are similar and in budget!0 -
why not look second hand?
i just picked up a set of hayes 9's with the 203mm rotors and spares for £950 -
I am going to be selling some 2008 magura louise brakes after the weekend.
The need a bleed as changing for xt.
Let me know, they are 160mm and 180 mm
Might need new pads as well, but cheap enough from superstar.0 -
Prob wrong post, but does relate.

How about these Giant MPH for £89 http://www.paulscycles.co.uk/products.p ... 0s102p2430. Have replaced my shimano ones with them due to a squeeling rear brake problem. They are excellent.More feel than the shimano and stop really well and progressive.Had Hayes 9's on older bike and they were very much an on/off brake with little feel.0
