I am quite a heavy chappy so i was wondering if this upgrade will increase stopping power rather than buying a full new set of brakes. I have a Giant XTC 2.5 which currently has Avid Juicy 3's, both 160mm rotors front and back. Would it be possible to simply change the front and back rotor to say an Avid 185mm rotor? Is it a simply unscrew current rotor and screw in new rotor jobby or is it a bit more complicated than that??

Cheers

Never done that upgrade, but would'nt you need to re-position your calipers to the new pitch of the bigger rotars? Deffo should get a bit more stopping power with the bigger rotars though.

This is what i was trying to work out. Things are never as easy as they seem when you think about it!

You will need an adaptor to mount the caliper in the right place for the bigger rotor.

Think crc do the adapters, there's a sticky on the maintenance page on this site about brakes?

If you are thinking about going bigger on the back make sure there is enough clearance for a bigger rotor, on my cannondale there isn't.
