i am looking to spend £2000 on a trail bike. i am 6'4 195lbs which is pretty big. i am looking for a bike that will handle going uphill, (i dont care how fast) but it must be able to kick arse down hill. I have an ac2 giant with sherman forks which i find too heavy and small for me on trails so i need it too cope with the welsh trail centres and some canadian stuff as i go there for holidays when i can. Any suggestions. Scott Genius 50, scott spark 35, marin ? orange? cannondale i would like something a little different than giant or specialized because i have had them, loved them but want something different.

Cube Stereo? I've got the 08 version, I'm 6'3" and 287 pounds, it's comfortable going uphill but is really good going down.
And you don't see many out and about either which appeals to me

That's like saying i want a door for my car that doesn't meet the roof, because I once had the wind blow it shut when I was getting in, and I had my head squished between, well, the door and the roof.

Zesty 314? Not sure how good value these are now since the price increases but they're really good, only bike that's ever come close to converting me to full suss.

Go for a Orange 5 S and buy the up grade in Fox 140 fork.
Then upgrade the rest when parts wear out.

  • Hi thanks for the suggestions (zesty 314, marin, orange 5 etc) what about Norco - Fluid two , fluid LT2, Faze two or three. i have heard great things about norco, does anyone have any knowledge comparing them to the above suggested bikes for trail riding with small-medium drop offs. cheers
