something like a mavic aksium lasting 3 years is good, i never have bought machine built wheels, handbuilt all the way for me, mavic open pro on 105 hubs wil be excellent for what you need, maybe lighter than aksiums and much longer lasting not to mention servicable. then if the rim cracks all you need to buy is a new rim for £45 or so quid and get it fitted or do it yourself! i use mavic open pro cd/ultegra hubs and they are phenominal, light, super durable and long lasting
Carbon fibre, it's all nonsense. Drink beer. Ride a steel bike. Don't be a ponce.

    Aksium 09's, Racing 7's, RS10's, RS20's.

Could just buy an 09 Aksium rear ?

I've never known of wheels failing because of the rider being only 13 stone (or at least if 13st is heavy my wheels must be in for iminent collapse)

I have them, excellent, and the hubs have the smoothest bearings of all my wheels, all of which cost a lot more.

I'm a 13 and a half stone rider and I have broken no end of wheels and spokes, normally when I stand up and put the power down until......

......I bought a pair of Fulcrum 5 evolutions. I think they're normally around £160 but I shopped around and got mine from Wiggle for £135.

That was over 2 years ago and the wheels have been fantastic on my Roubaix. They have never gone out of true, the hubs freewheel beautifully and I have never broken a spoke either.

They are also pretty quick and compatible with shimano 9/10 speed and campagnola.

I've done a good 4,000 miles on them and am considering another set for my Felt AR4 because they have been so trouble free.

Only downside is some tyres are a pig to fit on the rims. I have put Vredstein Fortezza Tricomps on mine and they are finger breakingly tight to put on.

The only reason I persevered was because the tyres are excellent and have never punctured on these rims and have only needed replacing because they wore out!!

If you have not done so already, its worth checking out "the wolly hat shop" for wheel deals... ;)
