2010 Specialized Allez paintowrk

Bought a new 2010 Spesh Allez 24spd in white, used it once before I did the Manc-Blackppol ride, washed it yesterday when washing the cars and it just seems to be covered in oil smears that are nigh impossible to remove. Also de-stickered it from those dreadful american 'danger' stickers which have left the most tacky, dirty looking adhesive which I'm scared to try and rub off in case it scratches.

Anyone any ideas on a) why it's covered in oil smudges and b) how to remove the adhesive without damaging the paint

What's the weather been like where you are? Maybe the 'smudges' are tar from the road? Certainly possible when the roads get hot. I've used muc-off to remove tar stuck to my bikes in the past, works well. Muc-off ought to remove the smudges whatever they are. First, instead of spraying it all over the bike, spray some on to a cloth then wipe the smudge to see if it remove the marks.

Adhesive remover - not sure about this. I've used Zoff adhesive remover wipes to remove stubborn adhesive residue on a variety of things from me to CD cases and garden tools, usually works a treat. That said I have never used it in the way that you want to and I'm not sure what it might do to your bike's paintwork. You ought to be able to get Zoff wipes from most chemists.

Isopropanol is excellent at removing sticky residue but i wouldn't like to say how it would affect the paintwork i assume it would be ok but test any new products in a small inconspicuous area first

    Hi
Try Halfords or a motor shop and get a tar and grease remover that WILL get rid of the tar spots. You could also try Methylated spirit.
They should also remove the sticky leftovers from the labels :) .
What ever you do, DO NOT USE nail varnish remover as it will dissolve the laquar of the paint. :(

WD40 will get rid of the adheshive - and probably the oliy smears too - other wise a specialist "tar remover" from a car cleaning range will work the business - something like Autoglyms "intensive tar remover" (which you will get use out of on your motorcycle too!)

if you use WD40 make sure you wash it off with regular car wash stuff else it stays greasy for ages. Dry the bike and give it a coat of decent car wax to make it easier to clean in the future.

    Adhesive - WD40

Oil smears - Baby wipes. (best thing ever in the history of bike cleaning, trust me!)

I got my 2010 Allez a month ago!

I use Muc Off Bike Spray - it makes dirt fall off and lubes the bike. Been using it for years on my MTB - my 5000ish mile Stumpjumper honestly still looks like new.

My wife got her 2010 Allez from Evans 2 weeks ago. Try them. They seem to have quite a few.

Furniture polish is good at getting rid of adhesive residue. A quick spray, leave for 10 minutes, then wipe away the snotty residue. 8)

Got it from Bike Facotry Chester and was £629.99, they built it super quick and gave me excellent new advice and didn't try and put me on the most expensive bike in the shop.

Next door is the Specialized concept store who where knocking out the 2009 model from £530, only a few left now thought apparently.
    2010 and 24 spd?

Sorry, 27 speed, only bought it last week and started riding it before I could count the gears

I originally washed it with Muc off, use it on my motorbike but I've found my problem, I've mullered my chain with teflon lube and it's flicking shit everywhere, cleaned chain and applied less lube and hopefully it will stop me smearing it all over the bike next time I wash it. 8)

Sticky residue.... I often use a little petrol from a jerry can but always test on a non visible area first.

And 2010 bikes are so in store..... some places are just trying hard to clear their '09 stock first !

NapoleonD is right. If baby wipes can't shift it nothing will.

My wife's got the Allez 27 in white and we also did the Manc-Blackpool. I also had to clean off the same sounding oil smudges on both bikes!
I used muc-off to wash the bikes down, and a microfibre cloth with a little bit of mer on it to get the stubborn stains off.
The sticky stuff left behind from the stickers will come off with a little friction. Just rub it until it rolls into a ball.
Worked for me. Unbelievable amount of 'danger of death' stickers though eh?
My Bianchi didn't have any. I guess the Italians just don't care!
