I wish him all the very best and hope he is as fortunate as Lance Armstrong was in his fight for life. The prognosis would appear to be very similar.

  • Saw Hartson in the canteen about 2 weeks ago - he's a big lad! They run a soccer school at the university here every summer and he was one of the coaches. Obviously before he knew about any of this. Get well soon!

Saw him many times in the Hoops. Nothing but good memories.

Looks scarily like he has the same set of secondaries that should have killed Lance.

Good luck in what will be a tough battle.

Hope Lance's good wishes and the outcome he was fortunate enough to have are an inspiration.

  • Our supporters club was lucky enough to have John as our guest at one of our functions during his days in the Hoops. Off-field he was a really soft spoken, mild-mannered guy - not reflecting at all his on-field personna!
    Keep fighting BBJ.

It is sad news and I hope he pulls througth.

I have to say I was a little suprised that a sportsman has cancer and it goes undetected long enough for it to be spread so far. I suppose I somehow expected the medical treatment these guys get would have picked it up much earlier. However, I suppose its not the sort of thing the club's medical staff are looking for is it?

I seen John make his debut at Kenilworth Road - great player and a real fans favourite. I wish him all the best.

Then he moved to Highbury to partner Ian Wright and they became two-thirds of a quiz question*

    Best of luck, old boy.

*clue: Charlie Nicholas, Liam Brady doesn't count as he didn't actually play for Celtic.

Neither, IMHO, did Ian Wright.

I quite agree he appeared on the team sheet. Just my view that he didn't actually play (that well).

Not an era remembered with fondness by Celtic fans who cringe every time John Barnes appears on TV.
