Advice please: MTB tyres for mainly road use

Hi Folks,
I'm after new tyres for my old GT Tequesta for going on holiday. We'll be doing day trips of no more than 25-50 miles a day, mostly on road and forest tracks on occasion (not muddy off-track work...just the odd puddle and crossing grassy fields etc).
Has anyone got an opinion ...well, of course you have!.. on the best fast rolling road tyre with enough grip to cope with light off road use? Price is not a high priority and 20 quid is my ballpark level but 30 is fine if it actually make a decent difference.
Much thanks,
J

Slick like in the middle for speed, although not quite as fast as full slicks)
Knobbles on the edges for cornering on tracks and digging in in mud
and about £20 a tyre.[/quote]"Bed is for sleepy people.

Thanks for the feedback, but are these tyres not just going to spin-up on grass (when upright) if it's even slightly damp?
