What a pleasure they are.

I only came close to getting run over once and that was by a stupid woman who "didn't see me", oh guess what, she was English.

  • Haha, this reminds me of when I was setting off for my France/Spain tour along the Camino de Santiago, my mum was wetting herself about these 'crazy continental drivers', worrying sick that I would be forced off the road every other second.

I can tell you now, I encountered more life threatening situations in a 3 hour ride this morning than I did in the whole month on tour in Europe.

And don't even get me started on the difference in provision for bike between Spain and England...

    They are amazing aren't they?

I actually learnt how to drive here in Spain & I can tell you that overtaking bikes safely is technique drummed into us from the beginning. That's the only way to educate drivers in my opinion.

All the safety campaigns in the world wouldn't do any good once people obtain their license...

Did a spot of riding in Fuerteventura, and Southern France and have to say we drivers in the Uk have a lot to learn about showing cyclists respect. I guess it could be something to do with the overcrowding on our roads comapared to the continent or something, or just that we live in such a shooty country that we're miserable all the time, just guessing though.

Not only are most driver considerate and the roads have signs warning drivers to be careful as they are driving in a "cyclist area" but I have been cheered on too.
Still if I ever get too smug I can nip into Gibraltar to get my feet back down.

Saying that, there has been an increase in motor bikers on some routes who do like to take risks with corners which can be a problem, but can hardly complain.
