Hi,
I am looking at getting back into Mountain biking, I Currently have a older Stinky maybe 2002 ish (white and green) that I swapped with a mate but do not enjoy riding it, I find it hard work on the flat and really want a XC bike.
I have been reading your forums and have come up with a few potential options but wanted a expert opinion.

http://www.merlincycles.co.uk/custom-mo ... eluxe.html
I hear that the Boardman bikes are good but are worth getting over ones above.
Please help me.
thanks

They are all good bikes in their own way, the Focus and Boardman being the best value. Saying that, the Comemncal has a hefty reduction.
It is usually best to go and try a few out. Any shops local to you?0 -
I'm In west Wiltshire only really my local halfords and ttcycles which only really sell lapierre and giant.
I could try Swindon, can you walk away with the boardman bikes or is there a long wait?0 -
the combi deluxe is a lovely bike. It was only that the marin i eventually bought felt better in riding position that I didn't get itStart Weight 18st 13lbs March 2009

There has been some stock issues, but if they have one in stock, it is usually a 2 day build to pick up. Best to phone first, and see if you can try the display model.0

If you can make it down to Stonehenge Cycles in Salisbury they've got Marins and Specialized to try out.

The Kona Hoss is targeted at heavier riders IIRC, so the frame will be pretty burly for an XC bike. Fine if that's what you're looking for though. My vote goes with the Commencal.0 -
On paper it's between the Combi and the Black Forest, I'd get on some and see what feels best. Both great buys.
The Hoss is a good bike, but weighs a ton. Great for going down, but it'll hurt on the climbs.Ridley Orion0
