Alright folks - looking for some opinions out there. Been looking about for a new seatpost and came across these two deals. Thought to myslef - why not bling the bike up a bit and go the full hog!

What I would like thopughts on is, are the Deus components worth the extra cash? Are they really that much lighter / better :?:

would love to see what folks think!

Cheers

They are lighter, but you are quickly hitting the realm of diminishing returns.

What do you have at the minute?

Are some well made carbon posts on ebay for 35 quid by exotic that weight less than 200g, and out bling any of those!!

Cheers for the response Sonic, I currently have the standard issue Bar, stem and seatpost that came with the GT Avalanche 1.0 Disc (2006). About the only standard bits, apart from the frame, that are left tbh.

At 16st and as graceful on a bike as Vanessa Feltz on Ice I'm not sure I could trust a carbon fibre seatpost. I know Carbon fibre has come a long way in the last couple of years, however, my seatpost is up and down like a lady of the nights pantaloons. The thought of me impaling the crown jewels on a jaggedy broken carbon post scares the bejeesus out of me! (he says heading off to ebay for a quick shifty)

Is there any differences between these eg seatpost length etc?

You may just be over the limit of that carbon post come to think of it.

Merlin should list the seatpost length really.

The SMICA PRO is a great alternative.

Very happy with my Deus bars and stem.I got them both for £50 as a deal from CRC.At 210g the bars are as light as some carbon jobs, and a decent rise/width.
Not sure if the same deal is to be had now,and the Evolve stuff isn`t much heavier.

Evlove bars, stem and post can be had together for £80 on Merlin at the moment.

    Cheers Spidey,

That was the deal I was looking at. Have emailed Merlin to see if there is any difference in seatpost length. Will post up anything I find out!

    Cheers

Get the Deus! You know you want to. You will only wish you had if you get the evolve.

Then again you may get more enjoyment spending the money you saved getting the evolve on some beer or something.

I think the Deus post is 400mm,the Evolve 350mm,which may be a deciding factor depending on sizing of the frame you are going to use it with.

    Cheers Everyone for the input.

I know I want the evolve (I have a large frame) as the seat post size is something I need to consider. Looks like I have to measure the length of the one I have as I am right at the line on that when I'm riding normally (only drop it for decents). I'm worried that the 350mm post won't be long enough.

Spidey - your info is spot on for the evolve, Merlin replied with 420mm for the Dues.
