Hi all. Am new to this cylcling lark, other than riding to school when I was a kid! Am 38 now, did the London to Brighton on my Ridgeback Comet the other week and throughly enjoyed it. As I am no longer allowed to play rugby or run (dodgy ankle) I am wanting to invest in a decent road bike to enable to get fit again, log a few miles and hopefully join a club near to Brentwood where I live.
My budget is a meagre £300 so am probably looking at second-hand when available, what do the panel suggest would be a good make/model for me to look for? I appreciate we'll all have differing views but I'd welcome opinions as ebay is a minefield!!
Thanks all in advance.

Hi mate,
Should get something half decent second hand for that.
Your best bet is to put the kettle on, make a cup of tea and have a good read through the 'what road bike' thread in the Buying Advice forum.0 -
Then once you have bought the right fitting size of bike, post some pictures here for us to see (please refer to NapD's proper posting guide of course)0

I bought a Viking Milano last year for about £250 new as my first road bike, and was told by the shop it was quite good entry level bike for that price. Fairly light and fitted with Shimao Sora bits. Sure you'll prob get better name and bike second hand, but it did me ok.
.........Selling it actually, so if your close to Derby and around 6 foot and want a bargain, let me know!!0 -
Doh! - Just seen your in Brentwood! Not a bad bike though if you have any shops selling them near you0
