Stem drop effect

Hi all,
Just a silly wee question to satisfy my quest for knowledge in this whole road biking malarky.
I dropped my stem by about 10mm yesterday and went out for a test ride. Felt much stroger than I would normally do over the specific route, and my average speed was upby about 2 mph. Conditions weren't out of the ordinary, but I did try and spend a bit more time on the drops than normal.
Question is, would dropping the stem by that much give me a significantly better aero position. Or would my mechanical efficency be much better being in the drops/stem being lower?
Must say my back was feeling it a bit after an hour!

I wish i could go 2mph faster for every 10mm lower i could get the bars.It would make a SMALL difference but not that much.I expect you were just feeling strong&maybe dropping the bars made the adrenalin pump a little :shock:TT photos http://www.flickr.com/photos/steverob/0
