Well, I've found myself in Barrow-In-Furness for a little while....

So far, I've been doing regular 25mile and 50mile rides but I could do with some variation!

(These are what I've been doing:

But...I would like some advice on recommended rides/routes (circular, if possible but I'm not averse to a nice 'there and back' run either) of anything up to 125 miles.

Thanks!

A loop of Coniston or Esthwaite should be doable. Around Holker Hall and Cartmel fell is interesting. Or how about Broughton Mills, Duddon Valley, Hardknott pass and back via cost (more or less) - that would be a hard ride in anybody's book! All of those areas are pretty close to Barrow though.

Johnny, when I was stuck in Barrow with work I used to drive and park up near Broughton before heading up Dunnerdale, cross over into Eskdale, up Hardknott, down Wrynose, round into Langdales, back up Wrynose and back down Dunnerdale. Depending on how much light you have and how fit you are there are plenty of good rides.

Up Grizedale via Satterthwaite is a nice long gradual climb without too steep a gradient - come back via Hawkshead Hill and the east side of Coniston Water for a great rolling ride.

Or for a bit more steepness, but with less knee-popping than Hardknott, you could do a nice loop up Gummers How (at the south end of the eastern shore of Lake Windermere) and back south through Cartmel Fell and High Newton (some great views on this ride) and back via Cartmel or Field Broughton to Haverthwaite.

Barrow might not be the nicest place in the world, but it's near by!

I was born im Barrow and spent many years living there. I would get myself upto Newby Bridge and do a lap of Coniston lake. Great views and a good work out.Maybe 2 to 2.5 hours is all you need.

I was born in Barrow as well and I preferred to ride out via Broughton-in-Furness and up onto Ulpha or Corney Fell.

You might want to try Broughton, Duddon Bridge, Ulpha, Eskdale, Birkby to the A595 and then back to Duddon Bridge via Corney Fell. Big open spaces and not a great deal in the way of traffic. The wind can be a bit of a bugger though because there's nowhere to hide out there when it blows a bit.
