Hi all,

I need to buy a new handlebar stem and cannot find an explanation of the difference between standard and oversized. Does it relate to the circumference of the handlebars at the point the stem will clamp onto them?

Cheers

Yes- if you have oversized handlebars you'll need an oversize stem. "Normal" size is 25.4mm on a road bike.

25.5mm is normal for an MTB, FWIW 25.8/26.0 is standard for road bars. Fortunately there is only one oversize standard for both road and MTB - 31.8mm
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
