Is the DataTag security kit any good?

With my new "expensive" bike coming soon I was wondering if it would be worth having one of these? Anyone with one? Any success stories? Any comments or other possible options?

Thanks

I had both my bikes nicked 3 years ago. The road bike (which I'd had for about 6 weeks! :( ) had a DataTag stuck down the seat tube, but I assumed it was gone for good and got new bikes on my insurance.

Much to my surprise | got a call from the Police about a year and a half ago saying they'd found my road bike. They said they'd never have been able to trace the owner if I hadn't had the DataTag (mine was the only one they found the owner of out of about 30 they found at the time), so I would definitely recommend it, given it's only about £20 (or was) and is only the size of a grain of rice. Mind you, I haven't done my new one yet.

(For anyone who is wondering, yes, I returned the recovered bike to the insurance company!)

Not had my bike nicked, but the warning sticker is so unsightly I've been close to removing it a few times.
Obviously it needs to be seen so it can act as a deterrent, but it does bother me a bit.

Thanks - I don't really care about being visible to be honest!

Sounds like it is well worth it!

It doesn't look great, but the Police said it was the only reason they scanned it for the DataTag - they'd never actually heard of it before, apparently!

Amazing - if I pinched a bike with a datatag label the first thing I'd to is take it off rather than ride round with it on for 18 months.

I really bought the datatag for the deterrent value of the label. If it got pinched I'd probably rather have the insurance money than get the bike back.
