I8D Alfine Shimano rear hubs 8 speed spokes keep braking

Hi wondering if anyone has had similar problems.
I bought 2008 Merida I8D with 8 speed alfine shimano internal gear rear hub.
Firstly the rear spokes have broken twice in 6 months since I bought it. :? I use panniers but don't carry much weight. Has anyone had the same experience with Merida s'presso bikes, OR hybrid commuting bikes with Alfine or Nexus rear hubs. :?:
Secondly I hear lots of stories about Alfine hubs braking after only a few years use. This sounds bad... does anyone have any experience good or bad?? :?:
Thanks for any experience shared. :!:

Breaking spokes is a wheelbuild problem not an Alfine hub problem.
Alfine hubs have only been around for 2 1/2 years. I havent heard of a single one breaking. If they do break you can replace the internals.
Nexus 8 had a poor reputation for durability but the leaky weather seals were fixed for Alfine.
There is an oil dip maintenance procedure which is supposed to to be a Good Thing for hubs used regularly.0
