campag neutron ultra- play in bearings

Found tonight at club TT that there was some lateral play in my back wheel, quite a lot in fact... so I popped the dust cover off the axle expecting it to be the collar on the hub with the 3mm allen bolt and no! Tight as can be!. So I'm stumped.
My mate reckons it may be the freehub body coming loose, the wheel is less than 6 months old.
Suggestions?
