Shimano Hone double can you use any chain rings?.....

Hello im wanting to change from doubles to triples and this is quick question can i use near enough any outer chain ring 4 bolt sytem ie Raceface or from the Shimano ranges like XT or Deore or XTR, im guessing that any will fit so log its 4 bolt right????
Its Shimano Hone double with bash and i know can take the bash ring off and put outer ring on just need know if have to stick with the Hones i prob already guess the answer is YES just like to be sure before ordering

Shimano are a bit weird - usually it is the middle ring that causes problems though, and can need filing down with other makes.

Eh how u mean Sonic? why does it need filing down??? all after is taking bash ring off by undoing the 4 bolts and replace it with outer ring so do i have to use the HONEs or can i use any outer rings?

i dont know from personal experiance, but i would say that its would be fine with any, i canr see any reason why it wouldnt be, unless hone strayed from the universal 4 bolt mount, wich i dont think they did.

I have a Hone chainset with Blackspire granny and middle rings and a Blackspire bashring.

No filing needed, fit and forget.

For example you cannot use SHimano HT2 Deore inner rings with older style deore without filing some of the ring away, even though they are listes as exactly the same measurements. It just doesn't fit on. Many do list compatibilty though, and SHimano tech docs do.

I am not sure what the deal is with some outers, but it is not always straight forward with Shimano
