What size allen key is required for keo removal? Is it 8mm or 10mm?

If I am buying one does it need to be one of those really long ones with plenty of leverage? Or will a normal diy store allen key work?

Many thanks.
Rich

  • 8mm. I think all keos need the same size key

    Yep, 8mm.
Get one of the long ones. I snapped the 8mm key on my multitool last week trying to get my pedals off. That's more to do with me not greasing them properly over the winter, but there you go.

I rounded off both the spanner side and the hex side of a pair of pedals last week. Had to buy new pedals to finish off my new bike.

    Can we fix it?
    Yes we can!

    It probably would.
It's long enough, but impossible to tell if it's made of tool-steel or cheese...

I have a set of Draper allen keys I bought from Motorworld or similar car spares place, all sizes from 2mm up to 10mm, that was less than a tenner.

I did struggle a bit to shift my Keos once, had to shove the allen key into the pedal as far as it would go and give it a whack with a mallet, but being 8mm it's tough enough to do that with.
