Iv just wrote my rear wheel off on the winter bike.
Iv tried to find a new 7speed wheel but they have stopped being made!!
If i was to purchase a 8 speed shimano wheel, could i put the 7-speed cassette on it, maybe by adding a spacer behind the cassette?
id be very grateful is anyone knows if this is possible? :D

Assuming the hub is OK you could always just buy a new rim and rebuild it.

I had the same issue replacing my 7x Claude Butler wheels - you'll be fine but the modern wheels just take a slightly wider cassette so you'll just need to add a spacer between the smallest cog and the frame

7 speed hubs use a narrower 126mm width than the 130mm width that the 8/9/10 speed hubs use. The frame will also be 126mm measured on the inside of the rear dropouts, so stick with 7 speed hubs!

    Thanks everyone.
the reason i didn't want to get the wheel build around the hub is mainly due to time, bike shops seem to take months making the new wheels and it would work out cheaper with the spacer behind the cassette idea.
Iv been lucky enough to find a new screw on hubbed rear wheel which will be perfect for my Claudbutler.
    Again thanks everyone. :)

My 7sp hubs were 130mm. And the spacer goes behind the big sprocket.
