Morning folks,
quick background - I've come from running and have started to do triathlon this season.
HAd to pull out of FLM due to ITBS and then further knee pain. Initially I put down the ITBS to the running, however I'm now 90% sure its the cycling. It never really healed when I knocked back the running I now think this is because I upped the cycling to compensate!

I had almost a week off cycling last week due to work and stuff, and knee was absolutely fine. Cycled 60, and could feel my knee during and the next day too.
Have done 7 and 8 mile runs this week and again knee fine. ! hour on the turbo last night and I've got that hotspot on the outside of my knee again.
Very frustrating!

So I'm pretty sure that it is something to do with my set-up, I'm also going to keep stretching to cover that angle but what is the protocol for sorting bike setup??

thanks a lot

Don't know if you've had knee problems for some time before now, but regards the setup I would check the following:

    1) Check your saddle isn't too high. Maybe go on your turbo for a few minutes and see how your knees feel. Drop the saddle by half a cm and try again. Keep doing this until you feel comfortable.

    2) Check that your saddle isn't pushed too far forward/backward. Again, test a few set-ups the turbo.

£) Get a check-up. Might be that you have slightly different leg lengths (who knows)

    Could be your cleat set-up.

Saddle too high was the cause of my ITB pain 2 years ago.

    Hello,
PP - thanks for that - My saddle does take a bit of balance to get my leg over it so I'm def going to lower it.
I do have the saddle right to the back of the rails, so it is as far forward as possible, this is because of fortnightly duathlons.

Ama I'm sure cleats will have something to do with it, but I did spend a bit of time trying to get them right, on one occasion I adjusted the left one a bit which caused bit of an ache for a few days in good knee, so I think they are ok (ish)

rich - did the ITB go as you dropped the saddle?
