budget of approx £500

Hi,
Just a newcomer and after some advice. I have about £500 to spend and wondered what would be best buy?

    I assume you want a new road bike, not just one to ride in the city. My first road bike was exactly in that budget (and at the time I thought it was an extravagant purchase...): Decathlon, if you have a shop near where you live, normally offers excellent value for money especially at the entry price level. They don't have the best decal's, but I must have ridden now about 5 years with it and have never had to complain...

    If you're thinking of using your bike for your commute, maybe a single-speed would do provided it's not too hilly where you live, and this sort of budget should give you a sexy city-beast.

    If you are after a single-speed I recommend the Specialized Langster. I own the '05 model and nothing's gone wrong with it at all. I guess it proves that there is very little that can go wrong with a good old single speed!
