maxxis minions

Just fitted a rear (26x2.35) and taken it for a spin in Newborough forest. Finding more effort is required to keep it going, compared to the previous 2.10 Kendo. Which pressure should I be running? The range on the tyre is 35-65 psi.I was thinking of upping it to 40psi. I'm doing stuff like the Marin and Coed y Brenin. Thanks for any advice!

Upping the pressure will increase rolling resistance as the casing becomes less pliable and is unable "Roll" over the surface (the opposite is true for road bikes).
If its a super tacky I think you'll either have to like it or lump it.
As far as Tyre pressures are concerned I run 29psi in my front ST Minion and 35psi in the rear(Highroller Maxxpro) for general trail use but it depends on your weight, rim width, style of riding.0 -
Great, thanks! they do hold on, being stickies. Looking forward doing the Adams family with these, but not the hill to get there! :shock:0

My mate had a pair of Minion ST's on his bike and trying to pedal it was like wading through mud. You might be better off with the standard compound on the rear.
They do stick like shit to a blanket though!0 -

I ride with a 42a minion on the front and a 60a rear minion.
Pressures are 22-23 front 24-25 back with a rider weight all up of 66 kg.
If you have the sticky on the back it will drag like hell, plus you need less traction on the rear. Now where's that "Get Out of Crash Free Card"0 -

I run single plys all round I'm around 90kg all up. Just edited the previous thread I realised my mistake. No I wouldn't run a rear Minion on the front but apparently the Minion DH F works well on the rear. I think Sam Hill uses a similar setup0 -
I run Minions, a F one front and a R one on the back. The proper rear one is a wee bit slidey, but not too worried that end, a supertacky 42A on the front gives astonishing grip! Dont find they roll to bad TBH....0

I run the super tacky on the front of my Maxlight. Its not the sort of bike on which you would usually find one but as you say the front end grip is amazing. I still haven't found its limit unlike the Gravity Pro which it replaced..
I dont think I'd run a ST on the back though .I was running a Highroller Maxxpro and I found they wear very quickly and give poor traction especially on the some of the wet climbs at Penmachno. I think this due to chamfered edge found on all Maxxis tyres. I've gone back to a Gravity pro on the back.0 -
Oh gawd no, no ST on the back.... Far too draggy! I'm still playing with tyre pressures on the back to see if it improves, but climbing traction aint too bad TBH... But, I'll be going back to the High Rollers once these wear out- Mainly as I have a pair of brand new ones hung up in the garage..0

Hmm. Might buy a 2.1 Maxxis Advantage and use that on the back for hilly trails , and use the Minion for the flatter ones :?0

Nowt wrong with a Minion on the hilly stuff! I run mine at around 28-30 front and the dedicated rear Minion at around 35.... I find its usually a case of speed or grip when it comes to tyres, I'd rather have the grip. Not always the case tho', I run WTB Weirwolf LT's on my 29er, they are both a soft compound but with low knob height, roll pretty well.0

Yes I'd say that would be a better option. A Minion ST on the front is a blast though.
I think I've got a bit of a tyre fetish I've got 3 pair of Conti 's, a highroller, a minion and a pair of Mitchelin slicks and I still feel as though I need to buy more.0
