Yeh, very good aren't they!
And a lot less agressive and in yer face than for the last tour which seemed to hype the whole thing to death. All looked a bit crap when we went down 3-0!
My last Lions thread was a lead balloon! Lets hope now the tests are upon us, interest will pick up. Anyone care to offer an opinion on the 1st test on Saturday? Could go either way I think although hopefully the Boks are as rusty as they say and we can catch them cold....but I fear they won't be!0 -

To be honest I think the Lions are going to be spanked but you can never be sure. As for the rest of the tests I think it will depend on who picks up injuries. We the games so close together there isn't much time to recover. Watch our for more high tackles0 -
Sth. Africa must be relieved they won't be facing Sheridan. If there was one player who would take it to them and match their strength and aggression, it's him."There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0

Nor Shane Williams. Neither of them are even on the bench :shock:0 -
Team is out then...
L Byrne (Wales and Ospreys); T Bowe (Ireland and Ospreys), B O'Driscoll (Ireland and Leinster), J Roberts (Wales and Cardiff Blues), U Monye (England and Harlequins); S Jones (Wales and Scarlets), M Phillips (Wales and Ospreys); G Jenkins (Wales and Cardiff Blues), L Mears (England and Bath), P Vickery (England and Wasps), Alun-Wyn Jones (Wales and Ospreys), P O'Connell (Ireland and Munster, capt), T Croft (England and Leicester), D Wallace (Ireland and Munster), J Heaslip (Ireland and Leinster).
Replacements: M Rees (Wales and Scarlets), A Jones (Wales and Ospreys), D O'Callaghan (Ireland and Munster), M Williams (Wales and Cardiff Blues), H Ellis(England and Leicester), R O'Gara (Ireland and Munster), R Kearney (Ireland and Leinster).
Sheridan has scrummaged well but doesn't offer as much in the loose as Jenkins. Plus, it depends how the ref decides to view the game and how wily his opposite number is. Remember he destroyed the Australian scrum a couple of years ago but then they got the better of him when they fronted up again in the Autumn. If teams do their homework they can get penalties out of him and I think thats what the Boks will have done. Vickery on the other side will no doubt ship a fair few penalties. Bit surprised Hines lost out to DOC on the bench but the team looks solid generally if not amazing. Come on boys!0 -
Shane is in poor form and lacking confidence, unfortunately. The Boks would loved to have seen his name on the team sheet. They can't pick him based on previous form, its too much of a risk. Would have loved to have seen him skipping through for a try but the chances are we'd just be watching him getting smashed and running into trouble.0

I'm going to stick my head above the parapet and state that we'll lose the first test. I expect to see Sheridan and Worsley playing before the end of the test matches. Hope I'm wrong of course. I'll take a win no matter who plays."There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0

Can't wait for the game! Quite like the look of the team, especially the 2 centres.
Anyone else concerned about O'Connell?0 -

Jason Robinson. There, that's shut you up!(and under)

Whilst I will jealously have to agree that the international scene is one of the strongest sports in the world. I'm afraid that Union will never ever ever be anywhere as good as Rugby league.
And as for Jason Robinson I remember watching him when he had real pace and skill about 2 seasons before he joined the old mans game in the other code playing for Wigan RLFCBianchi. There are no alternatives only compromises!

That'll be the same Jason Robinson who has a Rugby Union World Cup winners medal will it!!?"There's a shortage of perfect breasts in this world, t'would be a pity to damage yours."0 -

Yep it took an ex RL player to score Englands only try in the final. As that was the only time you got near the try line. All the other points came from kicking penalties oh and 1 drop goal.
I refere the right honorable gentleman to my previous statement

Whatever. If you don't like the game, get off the thread. But for the record, for me, union is more multi dimensional with more aspects to the game than league. Yes, some games can be dull with too much kicking but then so can games of league with people running into each other, wriggling on the floor and repeating for 80 minutes. Its just a matter of preference and as a Northern monkey its no surprise which one you prefer
. Oh, and we did get near to the try line in the 2003 WCF. Ben Kay spilled the ball on the line but Union isn't all about tries. Its about pressure, position and taking whats available which gives just as much of a spectacle as League.
What a game on Saturday though. Lions came so close to doing it and they really should have with so many missed opportunities. Such a huge portion of blame has to lie with Vickery. He was absolutely screwed in the scrums and gave away a series of penalties and advantages before he was removed (as I predicted 8)). I think Jenkins will still remain at loose head because of his workrate and fitness which will count even more at altitude next week. Adam Jones will start and if Sheridan has recovered from his back problem he'll be on the bench with Vickery sitting in the stands. Poor guy, such a pedigree but he's had his time. If we didn't get so screwed at scrum time then we would have won that game. The coaches were too slow to haul him off and so we were left with a mountain to climb. It'll probably be an all Welsh front row and I expect AWJ will lose out to Hines or Shaw even though its probably POC who should be dropped. Too much of a big call that though.
I look forward to next week. If we can sort out the problems and get a better platform up front, we should win it. The Bok backs did nothing all game and we handed them most of their points on a plate. Possession and territory were hugely in our favour and Roberts and BoD were immense. Just a shame Ugo couldn't take his chances. If any of the 3 we were denied had counted, it'd be a different story.0 -
