Ive downloaded the southern england and wales maps to my sd card for my Garmin. This has been working well for the past month or so.
The last time i tried to down load the ride information a prompt asked me to format the card.
Will i loose the map data if i do format it?
cheers

yes. but there is software out there that may be able to rescue data before you format.

once you have the data off the card, format it in the device you use (i.e. the garmin if possible).

If you have the same problem soon then there is a problem with the card and you should get it replaced.

How do i recover the map from the card?Dont really want to loose it as they cost £50 to get put on..When i try to access the card it gives the format prompt..

Is it possible to download these maps free from somewhere?

Im not to keen on spending another £50 and loosing them again....

You use data recovery software. you may get some free but i paid $30 for a mac program a few weeks ago for the same problem (well nearly, it was my dad's camera card and he didn't want to loose the photo's) .

you run the software, telling it to look at the card in a card reader, it tells you what files it has found, you copy these files to the computer.

Then format the card in the device, if you are satisfied it is safe, copy the data back to the card.

There is a possibility that the data is now corrupted. I'd contact the place where you bought the data/card from and explain to them.
