Setting up gears

Ive just got my brand new bike but the gears dont seem smooth and dont shift properly. What do i need to do? also the when peddling it feels like a knock is happening in the bottom bracket area/cranks. What could this be? many thanks

    it should have been set up by the shop take it back.


    if it was a net buy have a read of the info on Parktools.

    the knock could be anything.

    work your way through every part to see what is loose or pay your LBS to sort it.

    this is the problem its come straight from factory, but even they should have set it up :( thanks for the help though
