Bike spec doesnt look too bad as standard to be honest!

Better fork might make the biggest difference, but a decent one would cost a few hundred quid.

Maybe just wait until things wear out before you upgrade them?
Save up some cash in the meantime, then splash out when you need to?

what do you find is slowing you down the most? Suspension, brakes, gears?

    Is it comfy for you...

this may sound stupid but i'm new to riding and i dont really know what would be slowing me down. i just want an idea of which parts are weaknesses and which look like they'd benefit straight away from upgrades.

    hope that makes sense

tyres, £50 decent pair of folding
    wheels, £150 xt/717 or crossride
    fork £250 Reba.

Drivechain is 8 speed so not worth changing as it's so expensive.

But the total's still £450 which you could put towards a better bike.

I've tried a few on mine (same bike)

The only thing i've noticed really was fitting a hydraulic rear caliper, i was getting bad brakes on downhills with the cable rear. Fitted a Hope C2 bought cheap from here and it's done the trick.

I've also fixed Rockshox TORA 302 forks but can't really say i notice much difference.

As above, tyres, most bang for your buck.
