I'm looking at a Boardman Comp SC but was wondering how tall you are and what size bike you have?

I don't have the chance to try the Boardmans out and am unsure of size.... Hopefully some owners can give me an idea? :)

I'm 6ft 1 and don't know if I should get the Large (55.5) or XLarge (57.5).

Cheers for your help people :)

The important measurement is the top tube length. If you use the Competitive Cyclist Fit Calculator it will get you close. FWIW (which isn't a lot), I'm an inch shorter than you and I'd be going with the large, and I would be doing the same but possible fitting a longer stem if I was your height.

    I'm 6ft 1 and I have a large one!
  • ineresting!! cheers guys :)

Problem I have is that the local halfords does sell boardmans (and have them in stock) however I phoned today and the only have one size ( + he wasn't actually sure what size that was

Gonna pop down tomorrow morning and see if I can test it (well I might not if its only a small).

Might go over my LBS and get sized up for some different bikes in there and see how they compare too :)
  • well I just plugged my stats into that website and guess what.... the competitive fit is 55.1 - 55.6 :D

Large it is! really really appreciate the help guys :)

    Muchos Kudos your way :D

    Hi,

I'm 6'2" and went for the XL Boardman Comp a couple of months ago. I'd never been on a Road Bike before and at first the 57.5 frame felt too big - it seemed a long stretch to the brakes (the stem is 120mm i think). But now it feels just right - I have become accustomed to the new riding position after initially suffering from a sore back of the neck.

it's a great bike for the money I think.

I put some yellow tires on it yesterday to match the "C" on the frame. Looks a bit garish but what the heck!

Hope you enjoy your Boardman as much as I am enjoying mine.
  • cheers for the review mate :)[/u]

5ft 7inch (short arse) and on a mighty small frame!!
  • hehe... now i'm a bit stuck though. I would really like the SC Comp, but I don't know wether I should spend my £500 elsewhere and get some gears.

I'm going to the LBS to have a look today but i'm kinda set on the boardman atm :)

Is there a £500 bike with a carbon fork + integrated gears/shifters that I could look at?
(i'm having trouble figuring out what bikes have the integrated shifters etc etc :( )

For a road bike theres the trek 1.2, around £500 however the boardman range are probably the best value component wise unless you can buy second hand.

Yea thats the other bike I'm looking at. Can't afford £650 for the boardman comp :(

Would you say that a 56cm trek would be ok fit wise if I was going for a large (55.5cm) boardman sc?

6ft 1 I would say a large frame, so you seem to be in the right measurement.

I have a 1.75 metre high Boardman. He's lovely and quite handy on a bike.
  • OMG halfords = epic fail. I'm not getting a boardman.

    Apparently I need a 17" frame

    Hi

II had the same dilema - I'm 6ft 2 and recently bought a Boardman Team Carbon at XL and its perfect.

    Thanks
  • bah i'd so have one :(
the guy in halfords didn't know his ar*ehole from his elbow though.
Plus they only had 2 road bikes in there (this is a bike hut btw) both of which were small.

    Pointless.

Try a different store if you cant find an alternative, I went to three halfords before I found the right one with adequate service.
  • Hi Benj

I have a large Boardman Pro Road and I am a fraction under 6ft.

It fits me fine, the lean forward is not too far either.(and i moved from MTB straight to this)

Have you looked into a cycle to work scheme? This Pro Road will only end up costing me just over £600 with all the deductions. Keep checking on the Halfords website after you've sized up, sometimes they have random £100 off offers.

    Chirps.
