Car Bike Racks

I am in a dilema with bike racks. Until recently I took my bike with the families in a combination of a roof rack and a Witter tow bar suspended rack on the back of the car. I need to transport my road bike (Trek 1.9) and my wife's hybrid to the South of France this summer. I really do not want to put them on the roof and have just been quoted £250 to put a tow bar on my Mazda 5. Can anyone recommend a good rear door mounted rack or should I bite the bullet and just have the bar fitted and use my old Witter rack? I have been looking at a Saris Bones RS but am mindful that a door mounted rack is more likely to damage the car. Thanks in advance.

I have been using a Saris bones for the last 12 months between my Fiat 500 an Volvo estate and there is no vehicular damage. I think it's great. It also lifts the bike above the no. plate / lights so no need for those...

I use the SARIS Guardian 3 - quick and easy - big foam supporting bar spreads the weight nicely on the bumper. Not as compact as Bones to stow away though. Definately more fuel efficient than roof mounted bikes. No damage to car but you must make sure all contact surfaces are spotless/free of grit and dirt.
