Thanks for the feedback on what you did to your VT2. Sounds like I should replace my Manitou Blacks.

Pike dual air no longer in production. So Revelation 426 u-turn seems nearest match. the Pike Coils seem a bit on the heavy side - maybe 1.5 lbs heavier.

bad news is travel adjust is 110-140

How do you think the bike will handle with the longer legs? I use the 90mm quite a lot on climbs, so 110 is v close to current max extension of 120 on my Blacks. Do you think it will ride too front-end-up - maybe it'll aggravate front wheel lift?

Appreciate your thoughts - you must have a great set-up on yours.

Blacks (when working) are pretty good forks. Not as stiff as a Rev, but for a coil trail fork, on the money.

Have you checked the axle to crown on them both? It won't necessarily be the same just because the travel is.

Every inch of length you add will, I reckon, lay the bike back about a degree - you should know how that feels from the different settings on your Blacks. You could add some sag to compensate and move your saddle forward to maintain the bum/pedals relationship, but then you'll be losing reach...

Keep plugging my Maverick SC32s but 120mm with a stiffened 85mm setting sounds like it might suit you? Reba U-turn 85-115 also, if they're beefy enough for you. I wanted Magura Durin (I mean it this time, Sonic!) Marathons with an 80-120mm switch on the bars, but they broke my budget. Destroyed it, in fact!

Sram/RockShox still show the PIke 454 Air U-turn as a current model.

That said, they do seem hard to get hold of. If you shop around though someone may still have a pair somewhere.

The Revelation Air U-Turn though is a worthy successor, if a little less hardcore.

According to RockShox own axle-to-crown height chart, the 2009 Revelations are 521mm at full 140mm extension. So wound down by 30mm to 110, they'll be 491mm - which is actually slightly shorter than the Blacks at 500mm on full extension.

Dial in a bit extra sag and you won't notice the difference. You WILL notice it though if you try to ride any distance uphill with the forks fully extended - the front wanders all over the place.

Don't forget that you'll need to budget for a new front wheel too with a 20mm through-axle hub.
