Bike locks when out and about

The high security locks you might use around town are pretty heavy - probably too heavy for general cross-country riding. But when you've rolled up to the local country pub, you probably wouldn't want to leave your bike unsecured while you get a drink.

What sort of lock do you take out with you? Any recommendations?

Bordo Granite, pretty light and very compact.

That said, I usually ride with mates and we always sit outside with our bikes.
