Hi there,

Can anyone tell me the best size frame for my height? I'm just shy of 6 feet.

Also, any recommendations for £500-750 on a first bike?

I'm leaning towards Spech Roubaix or Trek Madone (if I can find a 2nd hand one cheap enough), but am open to opinions.

I know NOTHING about road bikes, so be gentle.

Thanks
BJB

    Hey BjB,

Firstly, there is a sticky thread about what bike. It lists various bikes at various prices with their pros and cons. The best bit of advice i can pass on, is visit your local bike shop and try a few out! Each bike feels slightly different and a lot of it is down to personal preference. I tried out Giant, Trek and Bianchi before settling on the Specialized Allex (which is a gorgeous bike i might add). Even if you dont end up buying from there, if it is a decent bike shop they will be able to give you some sound advice based upon what you are looking for.

Like you, i knew nothing about bikes so opted to buy brand new rather than second hand. The reason being, i was unsure as to whether i was buying something good, or something which was tired and worn, so with new i thought i couldnt go wrong.

Im sure some more experienced riders will be along with some more advice.

    Cheers

    Zog

It's impossible to tell from just your height what size bike would fit you. It depends on various measurements such as inside leg and arm length. If you measure yourself and plug the results into this website - http://www.competitivecyclist.com/za/CCY?PAGE=FIT_CALCULATOR_INTRO - it will give you an idea of the geometry you should be looking for.

    Remember two things.......
1 - The most important measurement is the top tube, not the seat tube. The seat has loads of height adjustment but the reach can only be changed by a few cms.
2 - Different companies size their bikes differently so a 56cm in one frame may be very different to a 56cm in another frame. That means you should look at the actual dimensions of the bike rather than just the wuoted size.

You really need to try some bikes. I wouldn't touch that website with a sh1tty stick. I'm 6ft with 34" leg and it reckoned a 62cm frame. I ride a 57cm and seems to fit nicely 8)
