"The world of cycling was rocked to the core of it's foundations yesterday when news was leaked that a cyclist from a professional road squad had tested negative for all banned substances. A spokesperson for the sport's governing body, the UCI was quoted as saying, "We are all shocked by these results. What's the point of us testing riders 3 times a week if they are going to test negative. Don't they realise how expensive these tests are to carry out? We're all very upset."
The rider involved, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was in hiding last night. However, he issued this statement. "I am truly sorry for bringing the sport into disrepute and letting people down in this way. I took the advice of a doctor who I trusted and it turns out that his regime of diet, training and sleep involved the ingestion of no illegal or banned substances whatsoever. He wouldn't even let me go out clubbing with my mates; no wonder my climbing suffered so much this year".
More revelations will no doubt follow soon.....

Sadly the Guardian had a real doping story today. Bernhardt Kohl (KoM in last year's TdF, until disqualified) trots out all the usual stories - everybodies doing it, I was unlucky, the UCI is rubbish, etc.
It interests me that sports with a percieved drugs problem, athletics, cycling, snooker, have elaborate testing regimes; many sports have little or ineffectual regimes and find no drugs problem. I wonder if sports like rugby, golf, weightlifting, cricket, etc. have a hidden problem :?:The older I get the faster I was0
