hi
a mate of ripped his gearhanger & rear mech off recently.
we have replaced these, along with a new gear cable,& here is the problem.
we cant get the shifter to click into low gear ( 1st ).holding the cable tightly before connecting to the mech,i can only get 8 clicks,as i said,it just wont hold that 9th click.
do you think there is something amiss in the changer & are they easy enough to take apart ?
thanks

That was a bit harsh, try speaking to the guy like a human being, he made a fairly common mistake, no need to ridicule him for it.0 -
As above (but without the insults).
If you can't get it into the top cog then either the cable is too loose or the L adjustment screw needs moving.0 -
thanks for the reply .
perhaps i should have made myself more clearer.
its a 9 speed set up,but will not change up to the lowest gear ( 1 )
the changer will not hold in .i will go back & recheck the adjustments.again thanks for the advice
cheers0 -
Sounds like you need to adjust the L stop. Wind it out a 1/4 of a turn, then try again. And then again. You can move the mech by hand to see how far it will go. If it won't reach the L stop, add more cable tension with the bareel adjuster (again wind out a quarter turn at a time).
Don't overdo the L stop or the chain will jump off.0 -
If you remove the cable from the rear mech, and then adjust the shiftter so it would be in the lowest gear, how meny times does it click (downshift)?0
-
If you undo the cable from the rear mech does the shifter click & stay in gear one?
If so then follow the advice from Rampage.0
