Upgrading my suspension fork - maxle compatibility?

I've decided to upgrade my super Rock Shox Recon air 120mm quick release fork to a Rock Shox Pike 454 dual air fork with maxle.

My front wheel has a standard formula front hub and I want to know if the Pike 20mm maxle will fit this hub?

    I don't think so. Might need a new hub/wheel.
What bike is it by the way?

Giant Trance X Torres. The big problem is that a new hub will cost me £60 coupled with a £35 labour charge for building the wheel; all adds an extra £100 on my upgrade. :(

Any reason why you specificaly want a pike?

My mate's got a Pike on his and it feels so smooth. Another factor is the weight, sub 5ib with alumnium steerer tube. Also I think Rock Shox are phasing it out so want to get one before this happens.

    Aren't they 140mm though?
Is the trance frame built for that much travel? If not then you'll invalidate your warranty and make it handle like a boat.

Nah I've got a Trance X with 5'' of rear bounce. The 5.5'' of the Pike will be fine and with the u turn should lead to a sweet ride

In that case a naew hub will be the only way to acomodate them.
The other option would be to find one of the older QR revs. Less burly than te Pikes, and more trail orientated, but they come in 140mm form and would compliment the Giant nicely, lighter too...

you don't need to spend 100 pounds though, you can get a quality 20mm front wheel less than that and sell the old wheel for a tenner or something. Take a look at Merlin.

/edit and I have the 426 coil Pike on my Evil. A superb fork. You won't regret it!
