I have creases either side of and at the top of the downtube on my Spesh 09 FSR XC Comp. i know that this has been caused by the last couple of serious off's that I have had whilst i was riding.
is this problem gonna end of being terminal for my bike or is it fixable???, I know it would be best for the bike if i was not to have anymore crashes...but thats like telling a fish not to swim....

Did you buy it new?Cotic Soul

nope.. was bought from one of the forums user on bike radar.. didnt have a mark on it when i bought it....0

Ah. I'd strip the rear triangle and shock and sell as spares.
Dents are fine. Creases caused by crash damages aint!0 -
Spesh frame warranty might cover it as long as you don't bang on too much about crashing it.You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -
yeah I thought about that also Daz, but alas the warranty is only valid for the original Purchaser....I will have a word with the local Spesh dealer on Friday and see what he says...0

but ow do spesh know yor not the one that bought i if ya know what i mean0

Usually they ask for a copy of the original proof of purchse, Scott do anyway.
Sorry to say, I doubt this is gonna be covered on warranty, but if spesh are like scott they'll have a crash replacement scheme. Worth trying the warranty route first though, but it'd be the longest of long shots.Scott Scale Custom

Thanks for all the replies, will be using my Trek HT for the forseeable future by the looks of things...
would be weeing against the wind with the warranty route option methinks.. and the damage is deemed done by abuse which is not covered anyways..Spesh don't do crash replacement either..
Spesh terms of warranty:
acceptable use with respect to warranty coverage?
Question
I'm looking to buy an FSR-equipped bike. Naturally I'd like the lightest bike that works for me. However, I want to make sure that my use of the bike is within your guidelines, should I ever need to make a warranty claim.
I'm mostly a rough trail rider, and the main motivation for the FS is for more control and comfort in rocky sections. My main concern on the warranty front, however is drops; one of my favorite routes has a few minor (2-foot) drops in it. I suspect that with an FS bike I will be emboldened to take some bigger drops in my routes as well, but I have no plans to become a downhiller or hardcore freerider.
So... What are the acceptable use limits of your four FSR models (RockHopper, StumpJumper, Enduro, Big Hit)? For which would my riding not be considered abuse?
Answer
Acceptable use is determined by our area warranty representatives. They visit your local shop when the shop has a warranty issue. If you are going off of these drops and not crashing or hitting hard then generally you will not see an issue. If you drive the front wheel into the ground so hard that it bends a tube, that is abuse. If you are riding and a weld separates or cracks then that is an issue.
Think of it this way. If you are driving a car and crash into a tree then that would not be covered (it is a crash and not an issue with the bike, per se). If you are driving the car and have just been cruising down the street and the frame gets cracked then that is a warranty issue.
The most important thing to remember is that we want you to be safe. We want Specialized riders to be able to walk at the end of the ride.
I hope this information helps.0 -
Not good news for u davy, some bike repairers can weld little plates over a crack, dont know if it works for this kind of crack tho, or if they can do it on aluminium.

Had a mate who bought a spesh allez of ebay and had the steerer snap!
Took it to local dealer and got a replacement foc. Think it depends how friendly you are with your local dealer as to how many questions they ask.0 -
there's nothing to lose by asking, but flaked paint under the downtube behind the headtube is an age-old sign of the bike having been crashed head on into something hard. No inspector or bike shop worth their salt will miss that.
That said, a mate of mine once traded in his old FS bike for a new one at our LBS because the bearings were worn. Turned out that in fact the rearT was cracked and the shop didn't even check carefully enough to notice before agreeing to buy it form him (he didn't know and helped them geta warranty replacement after the fact).
Have you asked specifically about crash replacement deals though? Many many companies do offer it and the bike shop might be willing to swing something for you for the business. After all you only need the front triangle an you might just surprise yourself with how cheaply they can get you one
On another note, I'd get the fork steerer and crown looked at aswell. all the stress that caused that creasing in the tubes went through your front wheel, fork legs, crown, steerer and lower HS race before getting to there if I'm reading that photo right.Everything in moderation ... except beer
Beer in moderation ... is a waste of beer
If riding an XC race bike is like touching the trail,
then riding a rigid singlespeed is like licking it
... or being punched by it, depending on the day0 -
fork steerer, crown, fork legs and all else is fine...
The crashes were full on... that full on infact that I have discovered that I have broken my ribs on the left hand side...will just have to chalk this one up to Experience (or lack of in my case  )
Have had a couple of LBS mechanics take a look at the damage, and as soon as they sucked air in through their clenched teeth and muttered a couple of colourfull choice Colloquial words i knew that the game was up for my Spesh0 -
I had a Stumpjumper snap at the back and crease at the front (Cwmcarn Freeride) and the shop (Noah's) sorted it as I was the original owner. However, the receipt wasn't asked requested. Give it a ship and support your local shop afterwards.0
