I am changing me pedal system from Speedplay zero's and am thinking about buying Shimano Ultegra SPD SL 6620 pedals, are the Shimano pedals as good as the mags claim. I would like your opinion good or bad.

Happy with mine but then I don't know what I'm supposed expect other than that I can clip in and clip out without much trouble. I would certainly buy another pair when these ones give up the ghost which I don't expect any time soon.

I love my SPD SL pedals - a lot of power from them.

I moved to them from Look Keos, and I much prefer them. It's the only bit of Shimano on a Campag bike as well!

Another vote for the Ultegra SPD SLs. Work fine for me and good value for money.
  • yep, very good, very positive action. They are expensive now though

    What's wrong with the Speedplay's?

& what you doing with 'em?

Yep agree with that. I've just bought this morning a new Shimano 105 Cassette and I paid about the same price for it as I did last year for a Dura Ace cassette

Really pleased with my Ultegras. The only problem is, they have gone up in price lately :(

If price is an issue, wouldn't 105 pedals perform just as well?

    Hi FSR Xc
I have read a lot of good things about the Shimano pedal system, so i thought i would try them, as for the speedplay pedals, i am looking to sell them plus a speedplay grease gun with cafe cleat covers.

I've had the Shimano SPD SL system for a while now and I really like it.
If the Ultegra pedals are too expensive, you can downgrade to 105 and there might even be a cheaper one than that- a slight weight penalty is the only downside. Like a lot of pedal systems there are 2 types of cleat- yellow have 'float' while red are 'fixed'.
  • Likewise, for a die hard campag fan, I love ultegra pedals and have several sets ...
