GT Avalanche Headset issues... help

I know this is probably a noob question, but hopefully someone will help.
The Cane Creek ZS headset on my 08 Avalanche 1 is feeling really grindy, I've had it apart and regreased it with some good lube, but it still feels really bad. The bottom set of bearings was pretty badly pitted and could do with replacing, but I can't find the bearings online or in the local bike shops.
I'm assuming that it is possible to replace them, I don't really want to have to buy a whole new headset as I'm saving up for a new bike.
Any ideas?
Ta.

Have a look on the side of the bearings for a code and whack it in google for a supplier of bearings.0

Thanks, but the bearings are loose (well, in a cage) rather than in a closed race, so I can't see where the number would possibly be written.0

Hmm, interesting! You can run them loose in that sytem, just have to find the size of the balls, then fill the cup up full and remove two. They last longer this way and take more load.
You may have ti measure with caliper - usually 5/32 inch.0 -
ah, cool, I saw some 5/32 in Halfords a few days ago... might give them a go without the cage. Thanks SS, you da man.0
