hi there :)

i recently dragged my old (20-25 years) roadrace bike out from the back of the shed to start riding to work.

its great expect that i've had 4 spokes go on the back wheel (not the sprocket side). when i took the spokes down to my local bikeshop they said they dont stock that length and since i had 4 spokes let go on the same wheel i'd be better off buying a new wheels as i would just continue to kill spokes..

so.. my questions. a. should i just replace the wheel? or b. just replace the broken spokes (all broken close to the hub fyi), also where would i be able to find 306mm spokes? i called a few bikeshops in london and noone seems to stock them..

thanks,
fred

Can't see why a LBS cna't supply 306mm/12.04" spokes. Might not be as common as mtb or road sizes but they should be able to get them. Part of the reason is the you only want a few, they would have to buy a box of 100 and be left with them.
I've added a signature to prove it is still possible.

Looks like they have them here for 25p each.

If you've broken 4 it's probably worth rebuilding the whole wheel though and you might just be better off getting a new wheel for not much more money. You'd just have to make sure that you get one that will fit the cassette (or freewheel probably at that age) so that your gears still work.[/url]
I'm left handed, if that matters.
