Right then,

Been meaning to go for some time now so booked it a while back to stay in Rose Cottage, http://www.brynteghouse.com/mtb.html

Sound like a good place to set up base for the weekend, has anyone stayed there before?

Anyway, just wondered if anyone has been to Afan lately and can give me some good pointers of what to expect and what the trails are really like.

Many thanks

Drew.

Afan is fantastic, plenty of trails to keep you busy all weekend. There's some hard climbing to get up the hills, but the singlerack descents are an absolute blast! :D

    Can't wait....

First time I'll be putting the bike through some real riding since I got it, Kona Kula 2008 with plenty of up grades.

Haven't been out for a few months as the knee has been buggered, hopefully i'll still remember how to do it...

.... Sure it's just like riding a... err... Bike though... right?!

I'd say start with Penhydd as it's the easiest (once you get past the brutal first climb)

    Don't afan is lovely

ignore Lama as the climbs are as easy as it comes fire road.. if you can't climb up a fire road best go on an excersize bike for a few weeks, the downs are great

Whites is more technical as a ride this creats almost a speed limiter on you which can be good

Wall(Most fun for me) is more flowy than whites not as technical but trail does nothing to control your speed which can make it tricky as youcan fly off - this trail is real fast towards the end.

Penhidd is lovely pedally single track on the most the most basic trail but a huge grin factor trail just because its great fun.

Skyline-- LOng 46k trail with a bit to much fire trak but some great single track thrown in with an amazing 6k decent at the end, which will end up with your brakes faiding or your arms burning.

thats afan enjoy! maybe see you on the trails i'm around one of them most sudnays

Easy tiger! I'm not suggesting it's technically difficult, it's just long and physically challenging.

there not though Llama, the whole trail is only around 20k,

there really easy easy climbs in terms of length and techincallity you can work up most the trails in 30 minutes if you really want. so thats not that bad if you ask me?

It's all relative though isn't it. If you ride that every weekend as you do you'll get used to it, but my regular local rides just don't involve 30 minute climbs like that, they come in short little bursts, often on singletrack. And I'd imagine a lot of riders are the same.

To each his own though, it's a great trail either way.

Ok, penis-measuring aside bear in mind if you fancy riding White's at all, I'd avoid Saturday as there's a race on. The course is open and it's a friendly kind of race but it'll be PACKED!

The Centre will be jammed too with stands and the like.

Unless of course you fancy entering?

    Yep ^^^^ good idea!

Think it will be good to watch, a couple of the guys going have only just started riding so should be a good way to get them motivated!

Don't think i'll be joining in though with the racing!

    Cheers.

Cottage looks good to, seemed like really nice people when I've been calling them to sort it out.

Can't wait for the weekend, finding it really hard to do work this week..... probably because i've been doing a little bit to much web surfing perhaps!

    Yeah heard about that!

Perhaps it's shaken the trails a little and made them nice and challenging!

I didn't mean to over sell it, nothing stopping you riding White's all day, just bear in mind you may be asked politely to join the queue to start a section (talking 2 or 3 people in front at most) and wait 10-20 seconds to start after the guy in front. Black section will be good if you fancy seeing some fast riding (others) and some crashes (probably me).

Keep an eye out for a tubby fucka wearing a gold full-face and riding ether a silver Endruo or Orange Cove Shocker, coz that'll be me!
