Please help! I just sold my Cube AMS and want upgrade to something with bigger travel to ride the UK trials and capable of doing all day epic rides.
I tested , Zesty 514 (didn't like it) and Orange 5 already. Loved the Five but the pice tag of 2850 (with upgrades) and warranty for 2 years put me off a little bit. I haven't tried Treks yet but reviews are impressive. So the question is: which bike would you recommend?
EX8 with it's price of 1750 seems attractive but is it as good as Five? And what about Remedy? Is too much bike for Trial/XC?
Confused Lukas

Commencal Meta? I personally am not a fan of the Fuel Ex, but I'm in a minority. The remedy I would say was a bit too much. The Orange is popular, but I'm not too keen on the single pivot, doesn't feel as good as other systems. Plus it look like it's been made in a garden shed I'm surprised you don;t like the Zesty, they get great reviews.0

try to get to ride the Trek and see what you think.ole ginger b*ll*cks / the ginger ninja0

Try some more out, and some with less travel/burliness. Some do seem overkill for XC!0

Don't forget the Hifi ProAdam.
Never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.
Current ride - Yeti ASR 5a X00 -
Just went thru some reviews and found Cannondale Rize 4 with 5stars - any opinions ?
Will it fit into trail/xc riding?0 -
Try them out then put the ones you do like together and try again.
What I did was do my normal runs etc then I looked at what bike would push me
Through rougther/harder sections and get a feel what was best going over the big drops
and ploughing through Heay Root sections and what bike
allowed me to do that and survived
Regarding the 5 you will find it very hard to kill the frame.
All susspension systems are a matter of choice and what you
have to do is find what is best for you.0 -
you have to love to the EX8 - (especially the retro orange) Really like the Orange 5 and heard great things about it but the price tag put me off - may be next time. Had the ex8 since November 08 and loving it!0

i have ridden an ex8 around a trail centre black run plus bits of the same run on an orange 5 pro 08.
No comparison...orange much faster and taut, trek seemed pretty lifeless.0 -

The EX and the Rize were very similar but I thought the Trek was a more XC-orientated and would suit someone coming from a HT. The Prophet was a bargain but I liked the 'trail hovercraft' feeling of the Rize so I got that. The 5 is no lightweight but it instills a lot of confidence and really sucks up the trails. Mega-comfortable for long days in the saddle too.0 -
I own a Remedy 7 and love it. Climbs like a goat and descends better than I could ever imagine.
Also tried the Lapierre Spicy 316 which I liked but no adjustable travel which will help on more xc rides or steep climbs. Another option possibly would be a cube fritzz.0 -
thanks to you all for advise - I can see the conclusion -
If you can afford go for Orange Five with Fox Talas - so it should climb well and descent even better , still being comfy for all day trips?0
