I had been looking for a race bike for some time when a freind of mine told me he had a old rush heap in the garden after a quick look and realizing it was a high end bike in its day
I took it home
I took it home

Although you have to remember it cost £80 so dont expect to see a dur-ace group set, that will come later with the zip wheels0

It don't need owt fancy, it just needs a good photo to do it justice. Looking forward to it!
OCP guidelines are in my signature BTW, although Stefanos has shown the way!0 -

better all but the forgot about the sadle bag0 -
Looks badass. 8)
Be awesome to be racing along and absolutely wipe the floor with other cyclists on that bike  , dunno if it's be hard like as it's probably very heavy?0 -
The wheels look a bit 'meaty' but other than that i reckon it's pretty light.
How many grams are shed with a lack of gears.....But then how many seconds are added :?
It's a beautiful thing, not meant to be a 'proper' race bike now, just a beautiful example of how things have changed, congrats on rescuing it before it completely rusted and ended up forgotten in the mists of time...........winter beast: http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr34 ... uff016.jpg

Not wishing to upstage your Harry Perry in any way as it looks the business.
Bought I wanted to show my
It's Reynolds 531 Pro and was used in a few time trials in the late 80's then mothballed.
I'm ashamed to say unlike yourself I spent nearly £200 on it.But it rides surprisingly well.0 -
I had treat her to a new 105 rear derailleur today as the old one had so much play in it almost changed gears on its own
as for the wienmen 27" wheels (ali by the way) they will go when i have some more cash to throw at it but the main mission was to get it on the road
the next thing will be 105 crank and hollow tec bottom bracket
i think the wheels will be next with a 10 gear casset then the last thing will be the STI s
but for now i have a nice classic race bike and she is purely for riding and enjoying
It's a bit late in my life to start racing now0 -
Say... that's a nice bike!

TBH, I think I preferred it when it looked a bit more retro (quill stem and drops, etc.). Looks a bit too "pumped up on steroids" now IMO, but that's just me being an old git.0
-
I preferred it without the TT stuff, but still, what a transformation!!
Nice work!0 -
On a public forum I'd suggest maybe a white garage door as a background, rather than a white-board with addresses and mobile phone numbers....
Nice bike by the way!0 -
I was going to say what a refreshing change to see a nice, minimal restoration but it is getting more "retro" and less real by the day! But anyway, congrats for a good rescue.Faster than a tent.......0

Very nice job. btw are they Shimano R650 brake calipers, ive recently put a set on my old Raleigh and it now stops very nearly as good as my Scott CR1 with Ultegra brakes.0
-
Sorry some of you guys dont like the finished product but it's made for the way I ride and not for the looks
I love the TT bars as they are just so much better than drops IMHO
how many people do you see actually using drops these days, they all just seem to be hanging on to their precious STI brifters
The full TT position makes so much difference on the straights and in to wind
I would not be without them now
the brakes are only Tiagra as the difference between them and the 105 was not worth the extra ££ and they are not as important as other parts of the groupset IMHO0
